Entry oversteer happens when your rear tires lose grip before the fronts do, right as you brake and turn in, causing the back of the car to step out. The fix is to keep the rear more stable during forward weight transfer: soften the rear springs, move brake bias slightly forward, or both, so the rear tires stay loaded instead of going light too early.

What entry oversteer actually feels like
You brake, you turn in, and the back of the car starts to rotate before you asked it to. It feels nervous, light, ready to swap ends. Small steering inputs produce a bigger reaction than expected, and you find yourself correcting just to keep the car pointed the right way under braking.
This is different from apex oversteer (which shows up mid-corner at steady state) or exit oversteer (which shows up under throttle). Entry oversteer only appears in that first window: brakes on, wheel just turning in.
Why it happens
Under braking, weight transfers forward. That’s good for front grip, but it means the rear tires are losing load at the same time. If they lose too much load too quickly, they can’t maintain enough grip to keep the rear of the car stable, and it starts to rotate on its own before the driver intends it to.
The whole problem: your rear tires are losing load faster than they can handle, right at the moment they need to hold the car straight while the front does the turning.
How to fix it
Work through these in order. Each one keeps more load on the rear during the braking transition.
- Soften the rear springs. This helps the rear tires stay in contact with the track as weight shifts forward, retaining more grip instead of unloading too quickly.
- Move brake bias forward. Reducing the braking demand on the rear tires helps prevent them from losing grip prematurely.
- Increase front stiffness slightly. This slows the overall rate of weight transfer and stabilizes the platform, though too much can introduce understeer instead.
Start with the rear springs. It’s the most direct fix for keeping the rear planted, and brake bias is the finer adjustment from there.
When it’s not the springs
If softer rear springs and brake bias aren’t enough, be cautious about overcorrecting with more front stiffness or more overall rear grip. Push too far and you can trade entry oversteer for a car that’s reluctant to rotate later in the corner.

Not the first move. Anti-roll bars govern lateral balance and matter more at the apex. For entry oversteer, which is driven by forward weight transfer under braking, springs and brake bias are the more direct levers.
Can I fix entry oversteer with brake bias alone?
It can help, but it’s a smaller lever than rear spring rate. Moving brake bias too far forward chasing rear stability risks introducing entry understeer instead.
